Low carbon – high architecture

EFN Workshop week in San Sebastian in cooperation with RWTH Aachen.

In the very last minute all 8 mock-ups were finished and ready to be presented at the International Conference of Architectural Envelopes ICAE in San Sebastian. At the conference we had the chance to discuss the concept of disassembly and its consequences with representatives from companies, architects and planners. The built model helps the discussion about different aspects of the design.

After everything was done the students commented that it was worth to take this course (most of them did it voluntary) as they think about materials and their type of connection differently. Beyond that, the students said, they gained a better understanding of the workload that lies between a drawing and the actual model. Besides a week of handicraft work we hope this experience contributes to improve the ability to design and detail facades with high architectural qualities and low carbon.

International Group (Polish, Canadian, French) designed a multifunctional façade that serves as shelf for retail purposes when open, and opaque surface when closed. The shape of the elements was defined by the rotating mechanism. / International Facade

The Polish Group designed an Urban furniture that insulates a building and replaces the plaster water barrier by a modular system offering different social functions. / Polish Group
